Owen
Owen (registered name Squeal of Delight) is a 12 hand grey half-Welsh gelding who has been around since the very beginning of Myrewyn. I bought him to use as a leadline pony but he’s brilliant and must have read the Pony Hunter manual because now he is also trained as a riding pony, jumps small courses, and gets his flying lead changes. Of course he refuses to do leadline any more.
Owen is a very handsome pony and he would like you to remember never to call him cute… at least not to his face. When he first came to live with me I imagine he thought he had come to the land of the giant horses because everyone towered over him. He is glad now that we have more ponies and his best friends are the other small and medium ponies. One of Owen’s most valuable skills is apparent at pony turn-in time; Owen knows his name and comes when he is called. A cheery call of “Owen-Pony!” will bring him at a gallop with the rest of the herd close behind him.
Owen is wonderful at shows (he’ll learn your course before you do!) and he likes to go on trail rides too. He can be ridden in lessons by students who are small enough to ride him and have mastered their secure seat and half-halts.
