Pan (sold!)
Westrum’s Black Panther is a 12.3 hand Welsh Pony gelding. He is shiny black with two white socks, a crooked blaze and partly blue eyes. His black coat hides a secret — Pan carries one copy of a color gene called “cream”. It does not show on black horses but turns bay horses to buckskin and chestnut horses to palomino. Pan used to be a breeding stallion at another Welsh Pony farm but he has been a children’s riding pony for many years now and thinks that suits him just fine.
Did you ever read the stories about Little Black, A Pony? I think Pan could have been the model for those books. He loves children, is not spooky, and will try anything. I can easily see him packing a child with a sack lunch out for a day of adventures in the countryside, just like Little Black.
Pan is a fancy mover and likes to jump. If you get to ride him, he will teach you about steering with your seat and legs and about having independent aids. Pan can go to shows to do the flat classes and jump small courses. He loves to be curried and fussed over, especially by children. He is polite about taking the bit but don’t trust him not to be a pony escape artist if you take your hands off him once the halter is off!
