Riding Lessons

Horseback riding is a sport which combines an athletic event with the responsibility of caring for another living creature. I do not teach the kind of lesson program where the child arrives to find their horse ready and waiting for them and then hands the horse back to the instructor at the end of the lesson. Even the tiniest of students is expected to help as much as they can.

In addition to riding skills, I teach basic horse care such as the names of the parts of a horse, the names of the parts of the tack (equipment), what a horse eats, how to keep a horse clean and healthy, and how to tell if they are sick or injured. Students also have the opportunity to participate in extra activities such as shows, field trips, or day camp.

Riders must wear long pants and sturdy shoes with a heel (no sneakers!). A safety-approved helmet is also required at all times while mounted (riders under age ten must wear a helmet at all times while handling a horse) but Myrewyn can provide a helmet if necessary.

I realize that everyone has busy schedules but because I must be able to budget based on my teaching schedule, no refunds or discounts will be given for missed lessons. If you have to miss a lesson for something unavoidable such as illness or a family vacation, let me know and we can schedule a make-up lesson. Lessons must be made up within three months of the missed lesson and I must receive notice that you will be missing a lesson (at least 24 hours before the lesson except in the case of illness or injury) in order for you to be eligible for a make-up.

If you are interesting in setting up a time to observe a lesson or set up a lesson time, please email myrewyneq@gmail.com or call 503.708.0831.
