Shows
Showing opportunities are available for almost all levels of riders. Riders who are able to walk and trot in a group and who know their posting diagonals are ready to show in the beginner classes. Shows are a lot of fun but also hard work so any student who is interested in showing should first travel with us to a show to watch and help so that they are aware of how shows work and what will be expected of them. We compete at hunter shows, jumper shows, and occasionally at horse trials (dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country) and most shows are within an hour or so driving distance from our barn.
Students who wish to show must demonstrate dedication to learning their sport in order to be able to compete with us. As a rider advances up the showing levels I will require an increasing commitment to fitness which can only be achieved through time in the tack.
- Riders competing on the flat and over crossrails must be in regular weekly lessons.
- Riders competing in small verticals through Short Stirrup must be in two lessons per week.
- Riders competing in the pre-Childrens or pre-Adult divisions (fences at 2′6″) must ride at least three times per week and must be leasing or have their own horse.*
- Riders competing in any recognized divisions, including any section of Pony Hunters, must ride at least four times per week and must be leasing or have their own horse.*
* At least two rides per week must be a lesson
Because showing over fences is hard on horses and each horse only has so many jumps in them, my lesson horses and ponies each have a height limit for lessons and for showing. See me to find out how high each horse may jump. If you wish to progress beyond these heights I will be happy to help you find a horse or pony to purchase or lease.
