Hi, I’m Sara bosch.

I was your typical horse-loving kid. I was lucky enough to be able to start riding lessons at age six and spent my childhood catching rides on anything I could from trail horses in Mexico to Olympic hopefuls in The Netherlands.

By my late teens I had settled on specializing in hunters and jumpers and worked for many years for Linda Worley of Cornerstone before starting my own grass-roots program. Riding in several dressage clinics with Dr Gerd Heuschmann started me on a new path, and then a maternity leave gave me ample time to think about and refine my goals. I am now back to basics, without a specific discipline in mind, but rather a focus on classical education of the young rider and biomechanics for the horse.

My Approach

Lessons at Myrewyn may look a little different. I approach training a young horse or a new rider in much the same way — working slowly, addressing fear and ensuring lesson comprehension before moving on. Most new riders will begin on the lead or lunge to learn proper balance before being given the reins at each new gait.

Lessons may be held indoors or out, may be mostly unmounted at times while we learn concepts or horse management (especially useful on bad weather days), and may occasionally be a ride following me on the trails to learn riding over varied terrain.

Progress may look slow at times and should not be compared to friends who may be riding at more typical modern riding schools where horses are more automatic and riders progress along a more predictable timeline. Learning in this way takes some extra time but will allow a rider to pursue their equestrian goals whatever those may be.

ASSISTANT TRAINER & INSTRUCTOR

Madeleine Matheis has been riding since preschool and has been working as a pony camp instructor and assistant instructor since high school. She also helps out with conditioning and tuning up the lesson horses and horses getting ready to move into the lesson program. If you ride Adora in lessons, you are riding Madeleine’s personal horse.

Currently Madeleine is teaching leadline lessons and some beginner lessons. Her dream is to go back to school for additional training so that she can add equine assisted therapy to the services we offer at Myrewyn.
